Blog entries about iClass - a Learning Management System
I had just returned from school. Walking towards the living room, I heard my cousins arguing over something. The argument was so intense, they didn't hear me walk into the room. So I sat down quietly at a corner of the room and tried to get a hang of what the argument was about.
After about 10 mins, I had a fair understanding about the conversation - one of my younger cousins had to make a decision about something. Unfortunately, the older cousins, had varying opinions and this resulted in a heated argument.
The first thing that came to my mind as I listened, proved to me that my ABP classes are extremely practicable (at work and life generally). I moved close to my younger cousin and asked her, 'what exactly is your objective in making this decision'? 'What do you hope to achieve'? Immediately I asked the question, the room went quiet and trust me, the conversation took a totally different direction afterwards. Long story short, I anchored the conversation until we all reached a conclusion.
Here is the process flow: After we decided what her objective was, we looked at the available alternatives, the pons and cons of each alternative and finally made a decision!
It was amazing! I was so proud of myself!!!!!
As a computer scientist, I see excel application as walk over but I was proved wrong on Saturday 15th February 2020 as we progress on data analytic course and we were taught some basic excel usage.
I realized there are many other ways of analyzing data using EXCEL application on Saturday 15th February 2020 and its simple to use by anyone rather than writing programming scripts /queries, dont get me wrong, programming is still the way to go for huge big data analysis but it is noteworthy that data are still extracted in excel format from databases for further reviews/analysis which underscore the importance of excel application.
Excel application is widely used for many purposes including the likes of financial modeling, budget planning, reconcilation and business planning. It can become a good stepping stone for people who are new to the world of data analysis. Even before learning R or Python, it is advisable to have knowledge of Excel. ... It can't handle large data sets very efficiently.
I am bold to say , work smart with EXCEL
We have learned in class that communication in simple terms is the transmission of information from a sender and the understanding of that information by the receiver. The success of the intended communication (in speech or sign language) is not achieved until it is fully understood by the receiver.
Strategic communication on the other hand is communication that strives to achieve a desired purpose or goal. It is communication with INTENT.
Strategic communication can be achieved in three major ways:
It has actually not been a long time, but yet does it really matter? Since I have been introduced to the concept of "structured approached to tackling problems and making decisions" at the Lagos Business School, I have made conscious efforts to apply this to my everyday decision making. My experience so far has revealed that it is not quite easy, especially, for anyone observing my behavioural tendencies from afar. This assertion may be correct because it is a new learning for me.
Notwithstanding the above challenges, I now appreciate the fact that there are many ways to tackle a problem (either personal or business). Complex problems call for a structured approach to tackling such problems. This is because a structured approach places the focus on facts, issues, and solutions and as well minimizes the tendency to play politics and seek coercion for support. #EMBA25
One of the things that I find helpful in this EMBA program is the group meeting. The meetings are a unique opportunity to learn from the unique viewpoint of other group members.
The meetings have made me realised that there are several perspectives to a case. One needs to examine all the various aspects of the case in order to to make the right decision .
I am beginning to see very strong connections amongst the four courses we are currently taking at the Lagos Business School. The courses (Data Analytics, Corporate Financial Accounting, Management Communication and Analysis of Business problem) are all useful when analyzing business cases.
ABP provides you with the techniques for critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving so that your approach in dealing with any business problem is logical and well thought out. Corporate Financial Accounting enables you to read, understand and interpret financial figures so you can make the most rewarding decision. Data Analytics gives the tools for understanding what is happening, why they are happening, what will happen and how to manage all of that information. Finally, Management Communication guides you in putting all the pieces together in a manner that is clear and understood. Indeed, all is lost without good communication.
ERMC is a non profit organisation for working class men and women with a common hobby or passion in Motorcycling. It comprises people from all works of life, bankers, civil servants, entrepreneurs, engineers etc.
When I joined in 2010, it had a short history and the current structure on ground was put in place by the Co-founders. A paradigm shift happened in February of 2013. Elections were coming up and members suddenly found themselves eager to become Executive Council members of one of the biggest motorcycle club in Nigeria.
On the 8th of February 2013, Elections held and a new set of Executives was elected. There was calm after the elections with plenty of jollof rice, meat and drinks courtesy of a member celebrating his birthday.
It was a great surprise the following week when there was a talk about some of the elected officials needing to resign due to pressure from an influential co-founder. This was naturally resisted. Elections in the past had been about selection and for the first time it deviated from the status quo.
In the coming weeks, the founding members all tendered resignation from the ERMC which was acknowledged and accepted. ERMC was faced with a vacuum in the Organogram and new Board of Trustees needed to be elected which was done at an Extraordinary General Meeting.
It was a huge shock when members got emails to appear at an address to collect refunds for annual club dues paid. It was rumour that due to the resignation of the co-founders, ERMC ceased to exist and all assets, liabilities and owners' equity had to be dissolved.
Naturally this required the interpretation of intelligent and smart people. The courts of Nigeria had to help with this interpretation which it successfully did.
The Judge analysed the case in his verdict with this summary. Resignation is a fundamental human right centered around freedom. Once their resignation was acknowledged and accepted, the co-founders had no reason to continue to operate as officials of the club.
He likened the ERMC situation to the case of 2 women laying claim to a child. A suggestion to cut the child into two so that both women could take a piece of the child was rejected outright by one and accepted by the other. It was then concluded that the true mother was the one who rejected the death of the child.
The co-founders wanted to dissolve the club with this resignation tactic and the judge saw right through it and granted ownership of the club to its current members.
ERMC is the Easy Riders Motorcycle Club, located in Lagos. Recently it was re-branded the Exclusive Riders Motorcycle Club and it still has over 40 members across Nigeria, Canada and USA.
The truth of the matter is there are really no right or wrong answers, it’s one’s ability to distill the facts/numbers in every case, critically think of them and make logical conclusions/decisions that are hoped to be beneficial that matters. It should also be noted that in the real world of which cases typify, there are a number of variables that may alter the outcomes of whatever decision is taken.
So friends, do not let ABP cases and any other cases for that matter stress you out to the point that you lose your sleep...lol.
Just enjoy the learning process!
Ladies get in here!
your face is the first thing people see, so it only makes sense that you would want to take good care of it, especially for ladies. Everyone’s skin care needs are different, but keeping a consistent routine is essential to caring for your face, no matter what type of skin you have.
There are a few and simple routine that could help achieve a healthy lifestyle to keep your skin healthy and glowing.
1. Wash your face in the morning when you wake up. Every day as soon as you wake up, wash your face with warm water and a gentle cleanser that’s formulated for your skin type. Massage your face but don’t scrub it roughly. Remember, the skin on your face is delicate, so it’s important to wash it gently.
2. Use an alcohol-free toner after you wash your face to balance your skin. Toner helps remove any traces of makeup, dirt, oil, and other impurities from your skin that might be left behind after you wash your face. In addition, it can help balance the pH level of your skin, leaving it healthier and less prone to breakout.
3. Use a light moisturizer; After you wash your face, spread a pea-sized amount of moisturizer over your skin. Also, to protect yourself from the sun, opt for a moisturizer with at least a little sun protection formulation.
4. Over-exposure to the sun can cause your skin to age prematurely. It can also lead to sunburns, and you’ll be at an increased risk for skin cancer.
5. Avoid touching your face throughout the day. When you touch your face, you can transfer oils, dirt, and bacteria to your skin, which can lead to inflammation and irritation. It can be hard but try to remind yourself to keep your hands away from your face, including not rubbing your eyes or resting your cheek on your hand.
6. Remove your makeup and wash your face at the end of the day. While you should wash always wash your face before bed, it’s especially important if you wear makeup. Makeup can clog your pores, which can lead to blemishes and blackheads. Try taking off your makeup with a face wipe, for instance, then follow that by rinsing your face with a gentle cleanser.
7. Exfoliate your face once or twice a week. Every few days, dampen a soft washcloth and gently rub all over your face. This will help remove old skin cells from the surface of your face, leaving your skin healthy and glowing. You can also use facial scrubs or chemical exfoliants if you prefer.
8. Apply a heavier moisturizer before bed. After you wash your face at night, apply a night cream to hydrate and repair your skin overnight.
You see, that wasn’t so hard… follow these routine and your face will thank you!
In the first place, we should not be content with a vague idea of the problem as this increases the risk of solving the wrong problem! To improve our cognitive process in problem definition, it is important that we consider if the problem definition proposed is a cause or an effect. This is because if we inadvertently solve a problem that is an effect of another underlying problem, no success has been achieved.
Secondly, time pressure is not an excuse to circumvent the critical problem definition phase. After all, it is better not to be moving, than to be moving in the opposite direction!
